To Each His Own

This morning Kris had an appointment with Alma for a "trim" and a shoulder massage.  Following the visit to the barber shop, as is the custom, he chose a place to pick up something good (translation: NEW!) to eat.
We ended up at Jack-In-The-Box, and when I pulled up to look at the menu he jumped out to get up close and personal.

He chose a hamburger on sourdough (no tomatoes) and an Oreo shake. Lucky guy, one thing he doesn't have to worry about is calories!

As soon as we arrived home he put his hamburger in the fridge and disappeared in his room with the shake. Hmmmmm, yum......cold hamburgers!

A Hike to the Top of Mt. Cristo Rey

Today Sonja and Kris ran a few errands and then met me at the office so we could go for a little (5-mile) hike.  There are only a few days during the year when there is a scheduled hike up Mt. Cristo Rey, and because of security reasons it isn't recommended to go otherwise. Today there was a geological/historical hike planned, so we arrived a little early to hit the trail on our own. Border Patrol vehicles were strategically placed in the area, as were a number of agents on bikes and on foot. There was also a group of volunteers who were manning various stations, handing out water, and setting up port-a-potties along the way. Sonja and I started walking, and Kris didn't lag too far behind!

A few of the many switchbacks and one of the stations along the way

The view from the top is quite impressive, but Kris was only willing to pose for a picture underneath the statue of Christ

On the way down Kris set a pretty brisk pace....

....and made sure that he rubbed it in that we were slowpokes!

We ended up at Sonic to quench Kris' thirst - a well-deserved treat for a hearty hiker!

Christmas

Christmas 2011
On Christmas Eve:
Kris helps Sonja hang her ornaments on the tree,

enjoys the tamales we share with the Elders for dinner
and opening a new pair of pajamas!

Christmas Day

Kris leads the way to the gifts under the tree

He is very happy that Santa left him the latest WWE game for his X-Box,
as well as a WWE cd

He has no complaints that he also received a box of cheeses and crackers, several boxes of candy and cookies, and some new Star Trek books!

He tears into the big box that was hiding behind the tree....

and is more than elated when he realizes it is a massage pad for his chair!

 More Star Trek books!

Gift cards from Subway, Chili's and Whataburger didn't hurt his feelings either

December 26:
Kris hangs his new ornament on the tree

And joins the fun at a desert bonfire!

It's Beginning To Look A Little Bit Like Christmas!

Kris helped pick out our Christmas tree again this year.

He went for a ride on the Polar Express,
where we were entertained by charming elves
and waited on by handsome young men.

Mary Louise and Scott joined us for the ride as well!

He helped decorate the tree!

One Thing I ♥ About Kris

is how he truly cares when he knows I am worried or concerned about something.
I spent an inordinate amount of time looking for something I need for Seminary tomorrow. Something I moved several weeks ago from where it should have been to a place I thought it should be so it would be more convenient. I will find it eventually, but not in time for tomorrow. I hadn't said anything out loud to Kris until this evening, and he immediately began helping me look. He had many suggestions of where it could be, but so far no success. I have called off the search mission and am working on Plan B. But my heart is full for his quick response to help me and his sincere concern.  I need to try harder to be more like him. What a lesson in Christlike service.
